The following forms are used to request prior approval of the Gambling Control Board for expenditures as required by statute or rule. Consideration of the requests is given by the Gambling Control Board at its monthly board meeting.

IMPORTANT: These requests and supporting documentation require time to review and process. Only complete requests that have been reviewed and contain a staff recommendation by the first of a month will be placed on the upcoming agenda for consideration by the Board. State and Local Laws

In the United States, each state has the authority to regulate the production, sale, and distribution of alcohol within its borders. This means state and local jurisdictions may have their own requirements in addition to federal requirements. State laws and regulations vary widely from state to state, and may be more restrictive than federal regulations.

This was the first form of gambling in the state, having been legalized in 1950. This only applies to harness racing, as a law in 1993 specifically banned greyhound racing. However, as a fairly pro-gambling state, Maine is only of many that are currently working out the kinks for the best way to legalize other forms of sports betting in the state.
